Marco Macellari is the Chief Executive Officer of CRIF Synesgy Ratings S.r.l., the ESG rating agency of CRIF. He has over 15 years of experience in risk management, ESG, sustainable finance, and financial advisory, with extensive expertise in ESG ratings, banking regulation, and credit risk analytics. Since 2025, he has led the establishment and strategic development of CRIF’s regulated ESG rating agency, created in response to EU Regulation 3005/2024. In this role, he oversees the agency’s strategic positioning, governance, ESG rating methodologies, regulatory compliance, and international expansion.
Prior to his current position, Marco served as Senior Director and Head of Risk Management & ESG at CRIF Management Consulting, where he built and led the Risk Management & ESG Service Line, managing a multidisciplinary team of approximately 50 consultants. He advised banks, financial institutions, and corporates on risk management, ESG integration, banking regulation, climate risk, IFRS 9, credit analytics, and data-driven innovation. Earlier in his career, he worked at Ernst & Young as Manager in the Banking & Capital Markets practice, providing advisory and audit services to major banking groups, and held front-office positions at Italian banking institutions.
Marco holds an MSc in Finance, Banking & Insurance, graduating with highest honours (110/110 cum laude), and is certified in ESG Analysis and Investing. He is also a qualified trainee in the Register of Statutory Auditors. A recognised thought leader in ESG and sustainable finance, he is a frequent speaker and author on topics including climate risk, ESG integration, banking regulation, and sustainable finance, contributing to numerous industry publications and conferences across Europe.
